Superfit Challenge!
This week, we're kicking off the Superfit School Challenge with morning prize drawings and daily announcements and brain breaks that will remind students how to stay physically active and make healthy eating choices. Each morning, 2 random students will win a fun, active prize. On April 27th, all students will practice what they've learned by completing the Superfit School Challenge Obstacle Course!
We hope everyone has been practicing healthy habits at home while helping us fundraise. We're working toward a school-wide goal of $12,000. If we meet this goal, Mr. Strathman will put on his best bike safety gear and spend a day pedaling through the halls of school on a tricycle! Plus, any student who raises $20 will earn one ticket for our grand prize drawings which include things like street rollers or a family summer pool pass.
All students will earn wrist bands and have a chance in our morning prize drawings. At the obstacle course event, each student will enjoy a healthy snack after completion. We need everyone to help with donations, and we also need parents, grandparents, or other interested friends and family members to volunteer to help on "race day". Every single person can make a difference, and Rosehill PTA thanks you for yours!

Kindergarten Roundup
Calling all 2018-19 Kindergarters! This Tuesday from 6:30-8:00 p.m. we will be hosting Kindergarten Roundup at Rosehill. The main goal of the evening will be to have all paperwork completed and answer any questions that you may have. It is important to note that we will not collect any incomplete paperwork. Here are items that you should bring to make this an easy process:
Items to take with you to Kindergarten Roundup:
Certified copy of your child's birth certificate.
Immunization records.
Completed enrollment form.
Proof of residency (two current utility bills, mortgage statement, tax bill or new purchase/lease agreement).
We would also ask that you bring your future kindergartener so we can complete a basic screener that night. We are excited to meet our future Rockets Tuesday night!

Rosehill Fundraiser
The Superfit School Challenge has arrived at Rosehill! It is our big spring fundraiser, and we need your help to make it a success! For the next 2 weeks, we'll be reminding students how to make healthy eating choices and fun ways to get in some physical activity. At the end, on April 27th, students will practice what they've learned by completing the Superfit School Challenge Obstacle Course!
All students will bring home a donation form today. We will be collecting donations over the next 2 weeks using the printed form or by sharing the website listed on the form and below. We are collecting all of the money ahead of the obstacle course via cash, check, or through online donations. If we meet our goal of $12,000, then Mr. Strathman will put on his best bike safety gear and spend a day pedaling through the halls of school on a tricycle!
All students will earn wrist bands and have a chance in our prize drawings, and, at the obstacle course event, each student will enjoy a healthy snack after completion. We need everyone to help with donations, and we also need parents, grandparents, or other interested friends and family members to volunteer to help on "race day". Every single person can make a difference, and Rosehill PTA thanks you for yours!

From Shawnee Mission South
Shawnee Mission South Robotics Day Camp I (first camp/novice)/Day Camp II (some experience or previously attended camp I)
Friday, May 4, 2018 (offering both Camps I and II options, please specify preference)
Tuesday, May 29 (Camp I only)
Wednesday, May 30 (Camp II only)
Time: 9 am – 2 pm (lunch will be served – pizza!)
Location: Shawnee Mission South, Robotics Workshop
Candidates for the Class: current 4th and 5th graders
Learning Objectives:
· Learn how to break a complex problem into small manageable parts.
· Organize simple tasks to create more complex behaviors.
· Evaluate results and fix bugs.
· Build the critical thinking skills that students need to be successful in any endeavor.
· Have fun and build a ROBOT!!
Day camps combine LEGO building, computer programming, design, team-work, and problem-solving skills in a fun and challenging environment. Day camp I is specifically designed for younger students that are interested in exploring robotics using the Lego NXT systems from Lego Education. We will spend our time on robot design/build focused on specific tasks and programming elements. Day Camp II is designed for individuals that have attended prior sessions (or have experience with Lego robotics). The class is intended to push beyond basics and get into some of the more advanced elements on building and programming a robot to accomplish tasks within certain constraints.

Both classes are a ton of FUN and challenging! (only 14 spots for any class)
The camps give kids in 4th and 5th grade the opportunity to explore engineering, math and science. The process of creating autonomous machines that complete useful tasks is what makes LEGO robotics so much fun!
Our Shawnee Mission South high school robotics team (with adult mentor) will guide students as they build and test their LEGO robots and learn valuable engineering principles along the way. Students will work in teams.
Each day camp meets for 5 hours (9 AM - 2 and is limited to 14 students. These camps are a key fund raiser for the Shawnee Mission South Robotics team for the 2018 season.
